Live Action Sailor Moon update

The series begins airing on Japanese TBS, Saturday October 4th from 7:30 to 8am
As you may (or may not) know by now, there's been a new Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon series announced.

This time its not an anime though. Similar to the musicals, but likely without fun pop songs, its going to be a live action television series. And its apparently going to be called "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon." (Or rather "Pretty Guardian Sailormoon.")

Recently the first shots and actress information has come out, and we're presenting it all here for your convenience.

If you'd like to see a very quick video of the press conference the picture to the right was taken at, staff member Dr. Xadium has got you covered. He has graciously put up a video file on his own FTP which is available for (excruciatingly slow) downloading. (We will try to get this up on the Genvid server, but don't count on it.)

The file is only 1.6 megs, though, so you'll live. What may kill you is the RealVideo format. (Why would someone use this? Why?)

So take a look here for your first video glimpse of the new series.

Strike a pose!

What's curious about that file is that Moonlight Densetsu is playing- it could be that they didn't have the new theme music and just put Moonlight Densetsu in its place, or maybe they'll be using a new Moonlight Densetsu remix for the opening. Either way it should be interesting.

Also, the girl playing Sailor Moon appears to have a bit of a lisp. She doesn't sound much like the anime Usagi, but is pretty close to the musical Usagis. Ah well. Here's more staff information.

More photos. The info rush is like February 1997 all over again. Except the photos aren't blurry screencaps from episode 200.

Update: new picture!

Pictures are taken from this page. Names are in Last/First order.

Tsuki ni kawatte!

Sailor Moon: Sawai Miyu

Birthdate: 10/23/1987 (Slightly older than Sailor Moon was at the beginning of the anime.)

Bloodtype: A

Height: 160 cm

Hobbies (according to her official fan page): Basketball and reading.

Previous work: She was in a Disney commercial and in this short film.

Visit this Japanese guy's creepy fan page to learn even more about her and see his collection of Miyu wallpapers.

Not Hisakawa Aya.

Sailor Mercury: "Sweet Angel" Hama Chisaki

Birthdate: 11/10/1988

Bloodtype: A

Favourite foods: Chocolate and Pizza

Dislikes: Sushi

Her official fan page has got some really annoying effects on it so I wasn't able to get much more out of it.

*Update* (8/15/03) - Read the rest of the translation.

Need more information on her.

Sailor Mars: Kitagawa Keiko

Birthdate: 8/22/1986

Not much else on her, apart from the fact I was told she "auditioned for some cosmetic product sponsorship."

It should be interesting to see whether they have her fight with Usagi like the anime, or take on a much more serious role as in the manga.

People have been speculating that the costumes look closer to the manga costumes, and so it may be a sign that this series sticks closer to the manga, but I'm not that convinced.

But will she have... talent?

Sailor Jupiter: Azama "Mew" Myuu (No relation to the girl playing Sailor Moon, whose name is pronounced slightly differently.)

Birthdate: 12/16/1985 (Oldest of the senshi)

Bloodtype: B

Height: 168 cm (does that fill the Jupiter height requirement?)

Figures, according to her official page: 83-60-85 (Centimeters, not inches! And she seems to have grown a little since this interview.)

Weight: 45kg

Previous work: All I see listed there is a commercial back in 2000.

Hmm...

Sailor Venus: Komatsu Ayaka

Birthdate: 7/23/1986

Bloodtype: A

Height: 159cm.

Her official page is rather bare but according to it she was in a commercial recently for Takara and a number of print advertisements.

That's all there is for now. As soon as there's more information, you'll see it here.
