Live Action Sailor Moon update (Diaries, Toei interviews... the usual)
|

Sawai
Miyu before the makeup is applied. |
Update 10/18/03 3:08 am - I'll put up the episode 3 synopsis as soon as I get it from Claudia; check back around 1pm EST. In the meantime, I was asked for captions to the pictures at the Toei page by a forum member (note the benefit of joining in our illustrious forums) which updated just today. Hit the Toei link below to see it, the photos are rather interesting. (The interview this time is with the person who does the designs for the Dark Kingdom actors/actresses.)
Picture 1: Final adjustments for Queen Beryl-sama. At the location shoot for episode one. Eventually, in episode 3, the clothing will get a
"power up"
Picture 2: Episode one. Jadeite. After his "Version Up."
Picture 3: Temporary clothing for Zoisite. The colour, length, and decorative items are made to fit the specific actor.
Before we begin, thanks to Starcat for the heads up on this... a terse but important update at Heavy Cat Web:
The possibility of major progress just became major progress. We now know exactly which company to discuss Gemini with, and we already have a rather positive response to the project. There is a great deal of activity going on right now (for obvious reasons) involving no fewer than seven companies in four time zones.
There are two more incidental lines at the page after that, but I recommend going to read them anyway because otherwise I'm just stealing Scott's thunder.
Congratulations are in order to Heavy Cat, hopefully success will be in the cards. (And may it rub off on a few of HC's other projects, hmm...)
I figured I wouldn't translate more of those Toei interviews due to their sheer yawn capacity, but I wanted something else to put up with the two diaries today. So here are bits and pieces from the Toei interview with makeup lady #1, which were translated rather sloppily by me.
First the Toei interviews:
Yamoto Shinobu
Born in 1976
She does everything the supervisor and casts wants. [What a brilliant summary
description, writer-of-interview!]
Intro:
Yamoto: I've been doing make up work on dramas for about one year now. While I'm trying to be a beautician I've stayed as a live action make up artist.
Q .Did you hear about this job from Mr. Nakamura?
I got it via my make up school actually. My teacher was good friends with Mr. Nakamura it seems and Mr. Nakamura asked him who among his students was good.
Q. What's it like on the actual Sailor Moon sets?
So far I haven't thought its a big deal... But since we're dealing with girls, there are many details in their hair that have to be dealt with.
Q. Any resentment against people on the cast?
Maybe toward the script writers! (laughs) They've just been gradually introducing more people. When the cast is going to become large and there are scenes with many of them, its going to be tiresome.
Q. You've spent a lot of time with the cast, what do you think of them?
Miyu-san is very energetic and bright! Since she's worked on dramas before, she's someone who best understands how the flow of the show should work. She really knows how to express her feelings, I think.
Hama-san (Ami) is a middle school student and the youngest on the cast, but she's very cute. I think she's also a bit too sweet.
Kitagawa-san (Rei) is somewhat different from her image. When you see her as Rei she looks exactly like her part, but the "real" Kitagawa laughs a lot and is very jolly.
Azama-san (Makoto) has got this fun laugh and she's really someone who I match well with. [The english term used by the woman is "my pace."] Komatsu-san (Minako) I'll have to see on.
Q. After seeing the first episode, what are your thoughts?
Its so different from what was on the set! (laughs) The CG really moved me. I kept thinking "Woooooow!" And Miyu-san was almost a different person from the one I knew. Her look, her acting [they were so different after editing.]
So now the diary entries for Mercury and Jupiter.
Sailor Mercury:
STOP! Before we go on, I'd like you to take a guess. Will Hama Chisaki talk about food this time? Yes or No?
Think about it...

Hama
Chisaki as she contemplates gnawing on Sailor Moon's hand. |
Hmm....
Here we go:
Hooray for the broadcasting of the first episodes of Sailor Moon! Keep this to yourself but, last time, on the way back from the film shoot,
I went with Usagi to have
Tapioca with Milk Tea...
and it seems that I had too much of it! I usually prefer something like coconut milk in my tapioca [but this
stuff was so great that] I was incredibly happy with it. Some tapioca was left over at the end... it became troublesome to
finish. (laughs) Next time we pass by that store, I'm not going to eat so much of it. But I really love tapioca. This was Hama Chisaki, who's been running around just thinking about food lately!
Did you guess right? Of COURSE she talked about food. SHE IS AN EATING
MACHINE. So why does she remain so skinny... I'd throw out my theory but
someone would probably call me out on being 'insensitive.' And no, I didn't
add that bit at the end about her 'just thinking about food lately'; she seems
to admit she has a problem herself.
[Its a secret message intended for Ms. Hama. Shh!]
Information on the Tapioca drink.
Sailor Jupiter:
Hi everyone, did you see Sailor Moon? Yesterday I had a scene where I fought with a youma and thanks to that today my arm is killing me! I say its "fighting" but its more like I don't get hurt while still using up a lot of power. (laughs) It feels like I haven't exercised enough, you know... I thought about this a bit. From now on I'm going to do a lot of muscle training, and endure!
You mean... its fake? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
