In 1995, a Japanese video game company named Angel released the Bishjo Senshi Sr Mn: Another Story game for the Super Famicom.  (The American version of Super Famicom is the Super Nintendo Entertainment System.)  The game is an RPG (Role-Playing Game) since the characters gain levels as they fight enemies during the game.  Its story is considered apocryphal since it combines elements from the anime and manga continuities.  (Hotaru mentions the Tioron Crystal, but that appears only in the manga.  The standard anime sources do not mention that crystal at all.  Moreover, the Rainbow Crystals appear in the game, but they appear only in the anime.)  Apparently, the game takes place after the fight with the Death Busters.  The creators of the game decided to give Mamoru the Rose Crystal.  However, Mamoru is associated with the Golden Crystal in the anime and manga.

Fans may find the game enjoyable, but the battles can be either too easy or too difficult.  Since the game was never officially released in English, fans had to play the original Japanese version.  (It is difficult to get far in the game if you do not know Japanese.)  However, several fans came up with an English-language version.  It can be downloaded from other places online.  (I will not distribute ROMs, so do not ask me for them.)  The fan translation makes it easier to play the game, but it does have its share of errors.  (The Marle Serenitaties error bothers me the most.)  The game introduces several original characters who are important to the game’s story.  It seems that the translators were able to figure out most of the names of those characters.  This article explains the names of those important characters.

Shaman Apsu
[ Shman Aps]

Apsu uses her powers to revive the enemies Sailor Moon and her allies defeated in the past.  (The sailor soldiers have to fight the Black Moon, Super Beryl, Mistress 9, and several other characters.)  She hopes to take Sailor Moon’s Silver Crystal and to defeat the sailor soldiers.  She commands the Oppositio Senshi to fight the sailor soldiers.  Luckily, our heroes manage to win every time.  The final battle begins when Sin fuses with Apsu to create a form of Apsu who has the title of Deity of Destruction ( Hakai Shin).  (The fan-translated version of the game renamed her to Demon Apsu.)  She performs an extremely powerful maneuver named Fin de Siècle ( Fan do Shekuru).  That French phrase means end of the century.  That fan-translated version uses the ridiculous spelling “FanDoSheckle.”  One group of sailor soldiers, led by Sailor Moon, goes of to fight that last form of Apsu first.  If that group fails, another group, led by Sailor Chibi Moon, goes off to fight.  There are two endings of the game, and the ending that the player sees depends on which of the two parts wins against the enemy.

In ancient Akkadian mythology, Apsu was the father of the gods and the consort of Tiamat, primordial abyss of salt waters of Chaos1.  Apsu personified the primordial abyss of sweet waters underneath the earth.

The Latin term oppositio means opposition2.  Sin, Nabu, Nergal, Marduk, and Ishtar have powers that related to the powers of Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus, respectively.

Anshar and Kishar
[ Ansharu & Kisharu]

According to the Bishjo Senshi Sr Mn: Another Story Perfect Guide, Anshar is the leader of the Oppositio Senshi.  He has green hair and a pointed pin attached to his hair.  He also has a sister named Sin and a dog-like pet named Kishar.  (The fan-translated version refers to the pet as “Kishal,” which means that the translators were not aware of the origin of the name.)  Before Anshar and Sin joined Apsu, they wondered why the sailor soldiers were not able to save their parents.  (Their parents were killed by the Black Moon.)  Sin blames the sailor soldiers for what happened.  Apsu sees the opportunity to use the two children to fight against the sailor soldiers.  (She gives the Sin special powers.)  Sin, Anshar, and even a mutated version of Kishar end up fighting the sailor soldiers at least once.  After the sailor soldiers finish off Apsu for good, Anshar gives the pendant we see at the beginning of the game back to Chibi Usa.  He is no longer under the influence of the evil woman.  Chibi Usa gives him a kiss and promise for a date.

The Babylonian father of the gods had the name Anshar3.  In Sumerian, his name refers to the totality of the upper world.  Anshar had a consort named Kishar4.  Kishar’s name refers to the totality of the lower world.

Sin
[ Shin]

Anshar’s older sister hates the sailor soldiers and the Black Moon.  The Black Moon killed her parents at some point in the past, and she does not understand why the sailor soldiers did not do anything to help her parents.  When Apsu found Sin and Anshar, she gave Sin special powers so that she could fight against the sailor soldiers.  She agreed to come along with Apsu only because Apsu allowed Anshar to join, too.  She eventually fights with the sailor soldiers.  (One of her special powers is Hells Attack [ Heruzu Atakku].)  She never manages to eliminate them completely.  Before the final battle, Apsu takes in Sin’s body to become a stronger version of herself.  After the sailor soldiers win, Sin is released.  She releases that the sailor soldiers are not bad, and they really do wish to help the innocent.

The Babylonian god of the moon was named Sin5.  He was the chief astral deity and the lord of the calendar.  He was often thought of as the father of the sun and Ishtar.

Nabu
[ Nabu]

Nabu acts as the Oppositio Senshis’ version of Sailor Mercury.  She first fights Mercury in Switzerland.  One of her powers is Hell’s Freezing ( Heruzu Furjingu), and she also has the ability to use the Dark Water power that Berthier of the Black Moon used.  After the final battle, Nabu and the other Oppositio Senshi are no longer under the influence of the evil Apsu.  They become friends with the sailor soldiers.

Nabu, the Babylonian god of wisdom and agriculture, is the patron of scribes6.  The Babylonians referred to the planet Mercury as Nabu7.

Nergal
[ Nerugaru]

Nergal acts as the Oppositio Senshis’ version of Sailor Mars.  She first fights Mars in Nepal.  One of her powers is Hell’s Flame Bird ( Heruzu Fureimu Bdo), and she has the ability to use the Dark Fire power that Kan of the Black Moon used.  After the final battle, Nergal and the other Oppositio Senshi are no longer under the influence of the evil Apsu.  They become friends with the sailor soldiers.

Nergal was the Mesopotamian god of war and plague8.  The Babylonians and Assyrians referred to the planet Mars as Nergal.

Marduk
[ Maruduku]

Marduk acts as the Oppositio Senshis’ version of Sailor Jupiter.  She first fights Jupiter in Canada.  One of her powers is Hell’s Thunder ( Heruzu Sand), and she has the ability to use the Dark Thunder power that Petz of the Black Moon used.  After the final battle, Marduk and the other Oppositio Senshi are no longer under the influence of the evil Apsu.  They become friends with the sailor soldiers.

Marduk was the chief Babylonian god and the consort of Sarpanitu9.  The Babylonians referred to the planet Jupiter as Marduk.

Ishtar
[ Ishutaru]

Ishtar acts as the Oppositio Senshis’ version of Sailor Venus.  (She also acts like a young girl!)  She first fights Venus in Turkey.  One of her powers is Hell’s Shower ( Heruzu Shaw), and she has the ability to use the Dark Beaut whip that Calaveras of the Black Moon used.  After the final battle, Ishtar and the other Oppositio Senshi are no longer under the influence of the evil Apsu.  They become friends with the sailor soldiers.

Ishtar was the chief Babylonian and Assyrian goddess of love and war10.  Her worshippers referred to the planet Venus as Ishtar.
