The rules for the Genvid.com forums are as follows. We WILL ban you for not having read and followed them, even if you've paid for an account.

1. Do not post links directly to files containing downloadable bootleg content such as bit torrents, emule links, etc. However, for links to other sites which contain the files, we will look the other way.

Regardless, Genvid does not condone posts pointing to or in relation to bootleg content, and Genvid does not take responsibility for the poster's actions nor the content therein.

2. NO POLITICS. Don't discuss them, don't infer them, if you publicize your opinion on anything deemed political, you will be banned.

3. Flames are allowed if they're justified. (If you're going to post something stupid, you've got to expect people will take you up on it.) Trolling, racism, and mod sassing is not.

4. Please post in the appropriate categories. Mods may move your threads to the appropriate category if they think it is more relevant to one or the other, so don't be offended by it.

5. Use proper English! This means actually spelling out words, having capitalization when required (lowercase when not, of course), and using correct punctuation such as apostrophes. Forums aren't AIM; if you're going to say something, say it intelligently.

We're tired of giving warnings. If you're not writing properly you're going to get a red tag. Fix your typing and it'll go away. Don't fix it or sass about it and you'll get banned, and that's the end of it.

Oh, and excessive use of "..." is annoying as hell. Don't do that. Would you...write...an...essay....like...this...? No? Then don't do that here either.

6. Use proper formatting! Don't type in all caps. Ever. Don't type in all lowercase, unless its for effect. Don't write every post in super cool fun font. Those are for effect only. If we see size, bolding, colour, etc., abused we're not going to be too happy with you.

7. Respect other posters! They post properly, so you should too. If you're making a request of someone, you should at the least provide the same amount of courtesy in return.

8. No bandwidth leeching. Especially not from official sites like HICBC or Toei.

9. If you are banned you may re-register your old account for the cost of a new one. If you are perma-banned you will be unable to re-register.

10. DON'T POST WITH THE BAN ME TAG! It's a big red tag that says "Ban Me." What do you think it's going to do?

11. Sorry, no account sharing. One account per person.

Note for new posters

If you're new and you want to tell people this, do not post a "Hi I'm new" notice or thread anywhere outside of Off Topic. There is an "Introductions" thread in OT just for this purpose. Use it.

Here's my advice for getting us to like you. If you want to stick around, this is going to be pretty important:

1. Lurk a while. Get to know the others in the forum from reading their posts. But remember that while you've been reading theirs, they don't know who the hell you are. So be sure to introduce yourself in the appropriate thread in OT.

2. Read the rest of the forum first! There are threads like the "Downloading FAQ" and "Act X opinions" for a reason. Often times you don't need to start a completely new thread on something and even more often, when you do, it'll be locked because its more appropriate in an already established thread. If half of your posts are locked new threads, you're not going to start off on our good side.

3. Consider before posting whether people would actually want to read your post. Moreso, whether you'd want to read your post. Most of us don't care if you're angry because you had trouble downloading something or some page didn't download, so don't bother us about it.

4. If you're under 18 or at work you may want to stay away from Off Topic. We can't promise you that the threads there will be "work safe."

I can't speak for the others here but my personal goal with these forum rules is pretty simple. I don't want a post from here to end up in the next edition of SomethingAwful's weekly web. If you post something that seems like it would be good fodder for it, you're out of here, and that's that.

Don't like these rules? Think they're unfair because other forums let you post whatever inane crap you feel like writing at any given moment? Then don't register and don't post. Its as simple as that, and you're better off having said nothing than having acted like an idiot and being banned from the Genvid.com domain.

We're very friendly, but we've got high standards for the site, and in turn, the forums. You'll note that very few of these rules are on post substance; the main concern is entirely on form. What matters to us most is that you post intelligently.

With that said, finally, welcome to the forums!
