Another Genvid scoop for you tonight. I've taken a look through a Japanese book called the "Licensing Character Directory 2007," published by Nikkei, which is one of Japan's premiere business media sources. I present my findings to you below.

A bit of background: This book is an industry tome, weighing in at 900+ pages and costing over $700 per copy. I don't have the kind of money to buy something like this myself; I looked through the copy available at the Tokyo Central Library in Arisugawa Park. I also don't have a scanner in Japan so I'm afraid we'll have to make do with digital photographs of copies that I took.

Sailor Moon Channel Translation

There's been an update at Sailor Moon channel and I've translated the small notice on the top left.

Finally, the Asakusa district's rainy season has begun to clear. We dropped by our friends at Banpresto and held a fireworks viewing party along the Sumida river which Takeuchi-sensei attended.

It had this wonderful "Ah, it's summer!" type feeling to it. This month we here at Sailor Moon Channel are working together to see a fortune-telling page get made. Please look forward to it.

Banpresto's HQ is in Taito-ku, not too far from where I live. The Asakusa district is a famous old entertainment center about twenty minutes from my apartment, and is well known for its opening and closing of the Sumida river ceremonies, where fireworks are lit on the river that runs alongside Asakusa. You can see some pictures of Asakusa at the WoL Tour page, since we went there on Day 2.

Review: Takeuchi's New Picture Book, "Big Boomee and Little Boomee"

Way back when, it must have been at some point in the summer, Naoko Takeuchi mentioned at Sailor Moon Channel that she and her husband were working on a picture book for kids.

The book came out last October and I finally ordered it off Amazon JP, having failed to find it in bookstores.

The book is titled, "Ooboomee and Chiboomee," which translated to "Big Boomee and Little Boomee," with boomee being pronounced "bow meh." The book was illustrated by Takeuchi's husband, manga artist Yoshihiro Togashi, while the text and design were prepared by her.

Naoko's 1/1 Room update had a second lengthy diary note on the third "Secrets" page among the graphics up top, located here. Translation:

On 12/22/05, at Ritsumeikan University, I gave my first ever lecture! I was received by cute snowmen [see picture on that page] and conducted busybody blacksuited women through a tense hour and a half. (There was a ton of snow in Kyoto!)

Naoko's Room Update 1/1/06 Part 1

There's been a new update (1/1/06) to Sailor Moon Channel's "Naoko's Room," which is the online diary page of Naoko Takeuchi. We have a translation of it ready now:

Happy New Year.

I'm sorry that I took a vacation from my manga last year. Right now, managing my company and taking care of my child are using up a lot of time so I was unable to draw as much manga as I used to but (here's the big concern) on top of that, since it was a bit too much last year, my husband and I got sick. (Thanks to a strong intravenous drip I'm now completely recovered. Noroviruses, mycoplasma, and influenza seem to thrive in my head. Everyone, please don't forget to rinse your mouth, wear a mask, and wash your hands.)
