Genvid announces “Guerreras de Leyenda” Now Available “Warriors of Legend” is published in Spain by Ellago Ediciones.
February 16, 2009 - Royal Palm Beach, FL - Genvid announces that its hit book, “Warriors of Legend: Reflections of Japan in Sailor Moon” is now available in Spanish bookstores as “Guerreras de leyenda: El reflejo de Japón en Sailor Moon,” published by Ellago Ediciones and translated by Salomón Doncel-Moriano Urbano.
“Warriors of Legend” analyzes Japanese culture through the lens of “Sailor Moon,” and has delighted fans since its release four years ago. The for-fans, by-fans effort also led a sold-out tour of Japan based on the book.
The new Spanish edition furthers the mission of the project, teaching about Japan through its popular culture by making it available to a wider audience. The Spanish edition also adds new text, photos, and updated information.
“Japanese pop culture is hugely popular in Spain,” said Jay Navok, co-author of the book, “and we are thrilled to be one of the first books about anime and manga in Spain, written from the perspective of non-Japanese.”
Salomon Doncel-Moriano (Translator) is completing a Masters degree in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Granada, and is currently researching manga translation and Japanese pop culture at Waseda University.
Jay Navok (Co-Author) is an MBA student at Columbia Business School. He holds a Masters degree in East Asian studies from Columbia University, is a recipient of the Japanese government’s prestigious Monbukagakusho scholarship, and lived in Japan for several years.
Sushil K. Rudranath (Co-Author) is a licensed Florida Attorney, and holds a Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Florida.
Jonathan Mays (Editor) is a former editor of Anime News Network and freelance writer for several anime magazines in North America and Europe. He is currently attending Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies.
Animazement 2008 Written By: Yosenex 2008-06-10 04:21:08 by Yosenex Orengo
Normally I would never travel too far from home to go to an anime convention. When I got an IM from my friend saying that Sailor Moon's voice actress would be a guest at animazement I immediately thought Terri Hawkes, she replied no the Japanese one. I bought my ticket right away.
After a 16 hour bus and cab ride from New York City to Durham, North Carolina we finally arrived at the convention. For the precon night on Thursday, I decided to wear my Crisis Compact and received many reactions to my henshin brooch. A few people even took a picture of me as if I were cosplaying.
Friday was the panel I have waiting for, the Keiko Han and Kotono Mitsuishi voice acting panel. I decided to hang out at the Con Survival Panel right before Han and Mistuishi's panel so me and my buddy could sneak up and have great seats. Our plan worked like a charm. I was sitting right by the door Mitsuishi and Han came in from and took pictures right away. The panel began with Han introducing herself as Luna with a cute little black cat mask and Mitsuishi introducing herself as Tsukino Usagi. After Han and Mitsuishi voiced the scene where Usagi and Luna first meet up, audience members were asked to do the same. I held my Eternal Tier high up in the air and was picked in the second pair to shout Moon Prism Power. About 10 pairs presented in total.
Han stated that it was she that persuaded Mitsuishi to come and that she hopes that maybe she will try to persuade Naoko Takeuchi to come next year. Everyone applauded upon hearing that. Eventually we had the Q and A. I asked them what they thought of the Live Action series. Mitsuishi replied that she only watched it but enjoyed the series since it was done in the style it was inspired by but she never actually met any of the actresses. She also spoke about the Sera Myu and mentioned meeting Anza and being asked by her how she should play Sailor Moon. Mitsuishi told her to find her own way to play Sailor Moon. Han said that she thought the girls were cute but were difficult to work with since they were so young, she also stated that she preferred working with the anime voice actors.
I managed to get autographs from both of them at the end of the panel. I handed Kotono Mitsuishi a copy of Warriors of Legend and thanked her for helping me learn Japanese from hearing her voice. Saw her later on that day for another photo.
On Saturday I chased down Akira Kamiya the voice of Prof Tomoe. I attended a Conan panel where he spoke about voice Kokoro and Ryou from City Hunter. It was really fun Kamiya is really energetic and silly in person. I ran up to him after the panel and was able to get my Sailor Moon S artbook signed even though there was no official autograph session. They like it when you can speak a little Japanese.
Later on that day they had the Seiyuu concert. All the Sailor Moon cosplayers were hoping for a performance from Mitsuishi and Han but instead all the other voice actors performed. Akira Kamiya did a great job with the opening to Kinnikuman. The voices actors from Sgt Frog performed the intro to the Keroro as well. We managed to get seats right behind the VIP people which made it more amazing.
Overall I must say this was a great con. About 5000 people attended and the Sailor Moon presence was strong. Sailor Moon cosplay included an amazing Seiya, Tuxedo Mask, Manga Sailor Moon concept art with grey hair and a cape, Beryl, Sailor Kakyuu, Michiru, Sailor V, Sailor Jupiter and many others. The dealers room had a bunch of the Sailor Moon bottle caps and a $70 Cutie Moon Rod as well.
If Keiko Han can convince Naoko Takeuchi to come, I will certainly attend animazement next year. Also I'd like to give a special thanks to William Donaldson and Lizzette Johnson for some of the pictures and video.
Kappei Yamaguchi, the voice of Artemis from the live action will be attending Otakon, time to attack him for an autograph.
And now watch Kotono Mitsushi as she transforms and says our favorite catch phrase. Moon Prism Power MAKE UP!
Genvid has a huge network of Sailor Moon and related websites spanning three different servers! Here's a quick map of all the sites you can find hosted by us.
I wish I had more to update with in the last month or two but there's sadly been almost no news to discuss in the Sailor Moon world. If something did happen, we'd have news and translations up right away but...
Anyway they did update at Sailor Moon Channel not too long ago; if you're wondering what it says on the top page it says the following:
I have a couple of comments to get through before moving onto today's long editorial.
First off, just regarding Sailor Moon news in general, apart from the minor updates to Sailor Moon Channel, there's been nothing (that comes to mind) to discuss. If there was any breaking series-related news to be had, we'd certainly have it up here as we did with the Lohan rumor. There's going to be a doujinshi event here in Tokyo again on Sunday, so at the very least, I'll have more pictures and stories from that next week.
Wanted to bring up one or two things. First off, did you know Sawai Miyuu's been in some public service posters for the Tokyo government? I've been seeing these around the city since February but never had a camera to take a photo of it for the site, and accidentally stumbled onto the campaign's website a few days ago where I found they had a scan of it.
The campaign site itself is here. They basically want people to stop calling ambulances for minor emergencies and take taxis to hospitals instead, which they've renamed "support cabs."
Third, a new book on American anime fans (written by an American and translated into Japanese) will be hitting Japan next month. Inside there's a section which discusses how, "Sailor Moon was bashed as pornography, but revived like a phoenix by fan power!" I'll pick up the book next month and let you know what's mentioned there. (Thanks Brant)
Fourth, we will be fixing some spelling mistakes and minor errata in the second edition of Warriors of Legend: Reflections of Japan. We expect to make the update next week, and the new version will be Third Edition. Once this happens, you will be unable to order the book for a week as the changes are made. If you spotted any typos in RoJ Second Edition, please let us know ASAP, as maybe you caught something we didn't. No significant changes are being made to the book, and we will list the typos corrected on the website.
Last, a reminder: be sure to check out the tour diary!
It seems that the Lohan rumor continues. Both we and AnimeNewsNetwork pointed out that there was nothing in Animage. Keep in mind, though, that that is ALL we have stated, that it was not in Animage. FYI, from this interview:
The people behind the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Japanese manga series "Sailor Moon" have sent her some materials to look at, she said, and fans have begun lobbying hard for Lohan to play the titular character, a rail-thin blonde known for her strong powers and sexy costumes.
